KMI Airport donates blankets to six shelters

The aim of this recent outreach initiative was to make a difference and to keep the less fortunate warm during winter.

With winter on our doorstep, the KMI Airport started a blanket drive, called Blanket Buddy.

The initiative donated some blankets to six shelters in KaBokweni and Pienaar on July 5 and 6. The shelters that received blankets included the Mbonisweni Sitimele Disabled Centre, Incaba Old Age Centre, Izimele Outreach, Moses Sihlangu, Positive Women’s Network and Tentele Home for the Disabled.

According to the organiser, Mbongeni Mashigo of KMI Airport, the purpose of this initiative was to give back to the community and keep the less fortunate warm. “Especially the needy, and with the winter season upon us, we can imagine how terrible it gets without any kind of warmth.

“We collected blankets in and around Mbombela. We have taken it upon ourselves to assist. Our target was 1 000 blankets, but we only managed to get 43 blankets from the boxes we placed in various locations in local malls, and were able to donate 343 blankets in total.”

Mashigo said the organisation appreciated those who donated their old and new blankets.
