Songstress sets stages in Nsikazi alight with talent

Dudlu ka Dlamini said not making it on Idols SA has a silver lining, as she is booked almost every weekend, and she is taking her music career to greater heights.

Most people may know her as the Mpumalanga hopeful that was ousted from Idols SA season 18 in 2022, but Nondumiso Nkosi, aka Dudlu ka Dlamini, is taking over the local music industry one gig at a time.

The artist has a new song that she said will be released just before summer.

“The song is titled ‘Wena Nawe Dali’. It is about love and how it feels to be in love. I worked with some great local musicians. I just need to polish it and give music lovers a quality project,” she said.

Nkosi, from Bhekisawayo near the Numbi Gate, said her career has grown after her elimination from the competition, more than she had anticipated.

“I am getting gigs left, right and centre. I am booked every weekend, and I am not complaining at all. It is amazing how the music community, especially in the Lowveld escarpment, has shown me support. Some might have thought it was the end of my career when I was eliminated from Idols SA, but it was only the beginning. This shows my talent is appreciated,” Nkosi said.

This independent artist has received some opportunities to share stages with renowned musicians such as Afrotraction and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse.

“The biggest highlight of my career so far was being one of the local musicians who took part in the activation events for the Metro FM Music Awards 2023. This is a depiction of growth and recognition.”

She said she is on a path on which she has always wanted to be. “Part of my plans is to have a one-woman show. I want to make it big and showcase my talent and prove that Idols was not the end of me and my love of music. I will keep pushing to be a successful musician,” she said.
