Nkomazi songbird embarks on exciting projects

Bongi Silinda was recently busy in her studio, cooking up some music with South African icon Chicco Thwala and an album of her own.

The singer and songwriter from Malalane, Bongi Silinda, said she is collaborating on a big project with one of South Africa’s music legends, Chicco Thwala.

Though she could not let on much about the project due to contractual obligations, the multilingual musician told Mpumalanga News that this is one for which music lovers can look out this year. “I am stoked for the world to hear it,” she said.

Silinda added she is working on another project of her own. “I have been travelling and doing features with other musicians. I also discovered new sounds that I like while recording more music for my upcoming project.”

She said she has created an amazing album. “The album is ready, just waiting for the right time to release. I can’t wait for my fans to hear what I have to offer to them.”

Silinda said the album features some big names in the industry such as Zano, Soulkulture, Polamo, Masandi and the late Thami Sobede.

Her career has progressed further in the past year. She rooted herself in finding new ways to uplift her music, and surely has great music in store for her listeners.

“In May 2022, I travelled to Tanzania for three weeks with the Open Africa organisation on a mission to represent young South African artists.

“I also got featured on DBN Gogo’s latest album, called What’s Real. I worked with the renowned female DJ on the ‘Mdali’ song, which has been topping the iTunes and Spotify charts,” Silinda said.

She bagged another feature for the song “Ndineculo” with an Afrotech duo from KwaZulu-Natal, Kususa.

In 2016, her career blossomed after her second audition on Idols SA, and she worked hard to achieve a few accomplishments.

These include sharing a stage with multi-award-winning producer and songwriter, Gordon Chambers, at an International Jazz Festival in Soweto, and opening for powerful songstresses Zonke Dikana and Lira at their concerts. She also managed to open her own recording label, Soul Lyf Entertainment.

Until the two latest projects are released, Silinda said music lovers can listen to her new single, “Sondzela”, which is available on iTunes.
