PHOTOS: Mpumalanga Easter Road Safety campaign launched

 The Easter Road Safety campaign launch includes various operations that are intended to assist in keeping motorists safe.

The Easter Road Safety campaign was launched on the N4 road block at the Karino Interchange today April 5.

The Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Vusi Shongwe, Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, Buscor executive chairperson Norah Fakude, provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, HOD Godfrey Ntombela and various stakeholders were in attendance.

According to the department, plans for this year’s Easter Weekend are informed by the comprehensive historical information on crashes and fatalities during the Easter holidays between 2018 and 2022.

“While plans are in place to curb crashes, we appeal to all road users to play their part by being cautious and considerate when driving. We must prioritise our safety and that of others,” said Shongwe.

A 24-hour shift by traffic law enforcement officers will be implemented on six identified provincial priority routes from April 6 to 11.

The department added that other actions will be put in place including alcohol operations, roadblocks, block patrols, and other road safety activations across the province.
