Gunmen open fire on father and daughters in Belfast

The father sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

It was a traumatic experience for a father and his two daughters, aged six and eight, when they narrowly escaped death at the hands of two unknown criminals who started shooting at their vehicle on Saturday at about 08:45.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a provincial police spokesperson, said the father and the minors were driving out of their yard when two criminals with balaclavas opened fire.
He said the father immediately instructed his children to get out of from the vehicle and seek refuge at the neighbours.

“The assailants proceeded closer to the vehicle and fired more shots. They rushed towards a grey Toyota Corolla and fled the scene,” he said.
Mohlala said the father was receiving medical attention at a hospital, which he did not name for security reasons.

“The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to his hand and back, and some injuries caused by shattered glass when his vehicle hit a wall.
“He was transported to Belfast Hospital where he received treatment before he was transferred to the undisclosed hospital for his safety.”
