Three unlicensed firearms recovered and two suspects arrested in Acornhoek

The suspects had failed to produce licences for these firearms, and were subsequently taken into custody.

Three illegal firearms and 13 live rounds of ammunition were recovered, and two suspects, both aged 31, were arrested on the R40 in Acornhoek, on Friday January 6 at about 20:00.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the Acornhoek Crime Prevention members spotted a suspicious red Toyota Tazz with KwaZulu-Natal registration plates.

Mohlala said the members approached the vehicle, which had two occupants. They searched the vehicle and discovered three firearms, one with its serial numbers filed off, and 13 live rounds of ammunition.

Mohlala said the suspects were arrested when they failed to produce firearm licences or permits.

“The duo, one a local resident and the other one believed to be from Rustenburg, are expected to appear in the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday January 9 for possession of firearms and ammunition without the valid firearm licences or permits.”
