Wife of murdered man and four others granted bail in Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court

The wife is alleged to have orchestrated the murder of her husband.

The murder of Nkosinathi Mlambo (40) has caused an uproar of enraged community members in Madadeni near Tonga.

The recent judgment by Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court has not made matters any easier for the Mlambo family, as the five standing accused of the murder, including his wife, were granted bail.

The wife, Buyisile Madubandlela, allegedly orchestrated the murder alongside such accomplices as her uncle, Bhekithemba Nkosi, Thato Mbewe, David Matsepane and Mpho Ditlage.

Mlambo was shot multiple times on the doorsteps of his parents’ house in Madadeni near Tonga on November 19.

It took the police less than 24 hours to make the arrests from different minibuses during a stop-and-search conducted near the N4 Nkomazi Toll Plaza on November 20.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the police suspected that the accused were on their way home to Pretoria when they were arrested.

“One accused was arrested from the first taxi, while another suspect evaded arrest and ran into the bushes. The other two were arrested in another taxi. The fourth accused, Nkosi, who allegedly transported the suspects from Soshanguve in Pretoria to Nkomazi, handed himself over to the police. Firearms believed to have been used in the execution of the crime were recovered in a taxi in Pretoria,” Mdhluli said.

The five made a brief appearance in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on November 22. They were all remanded in custody while expected to make their second appearance on November 28 for formal bail application.

After several appearances in the same court, they were granted R5 000 bail each on December 14.

The Mlambo family dreaded to see the day the accused were granted bail. A family member, Hendricks Thobela, said they are saddened by the court’s decision to grant the accused bail.

“We understand that everyone in South Africa has the right to bail, but they do not deserve to see the light of day after they planned to kill our brother in a very brutal way. We do not know the semantics of our brother’s relationships with his wife, but still he did not deserve to die. We demand justice for Nkosinathi,” Thobela said.

“We hope this is the last Christmas they will spend outside, and that the new year will see the accused being convicted and sentenced to a lifetime in prison,” Thobela said.

The five are expected to appear in court on February 7.
