Talk show hosted in Emnotweni Arena to tackle mental issues

Asikhulume and Heal talk show aims to create a platform for men and women to deliberate about mental health issues and relationships.

Asikhulume and Heal is a talk show platform created by author, and life and business coach, Rinkie Gama, to allow women and men from all backgrounds to share their experiences about mental health and how to tackle modern relationships.

Gama said that speaking out about issues can help one avoid mental health issues.

She said this during the inaugural Asikhulume and Heal that took place at Emnotweni Arena, Mbombela on Saturday December 3.

The show was graced by inspirational speaker and author, Zanele Mbokazi.

“The purpose of the show was to talk and find ways to help each other. It is also easier to deal with something when you are assured that you are not the only one going through the toughest tests of time. Talking also reduces the mortality rate caused by mental issues. Some people have committed suicide because they were so consumed by their issues and never spoke out,” Gama said.

“It is important that we understand we cannot help ourselves in every situation. We need extra eyes and ears and shoulder to lean on when times get tough. We need to help each other find a balance in this life,” she said. She said the show is inspired by her book, Behind Her Smile There Is a Hidden Pain: Surviving heartbreak, which she compiled after she went through what she described the most deepest pain.

“I found my healing when I wrote this book. The book is also an encouragement of speaking or finding something that will help deal with mental issues.”

Gama said that Asikhulume and Heal will be hosted annually.
