Robbery and mugging incidents increase in Nsikazi

Burglary and mugging are peaking now, and people are mugged while they wait for transport to go to work

As the festive season draws near, criminals in Nsikazi townships use every means necessary to make quick money. They go around robbing people and hitting churches.
A church in Entokozweni had its sound system and other equipment stolen last week. Churches used to be revered as holy places, but today’s criminals regard them just as buildings.

Two women’s phones were mugged while they were waiting for a bus to take them to work this morning, November 16, at KaNyamazane Ext 6. Similar incidents of people getting mugged at bus stations have been trending on the socials lately.
Community members should be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Police Captain Magonseni Charles Nkosi said people should not buy stolen goods.
“We want to warn the community members to stop buying goods on the streets as it might be stolen. They must rather report people who are selling things without receipt and this will discourage stealing,” Nkosi said.
Churches must lock their equipment in secure places. “Installing security measures like alarm systems, cyber security software, smart locks and access control systems, panic buttons and surveillance cameras are some of the ways in which to strengthen security in churches.”

Nkosi said, “Pastors are advised not to leave valuable equipment on the church premises. They should consider transporting their equipment whenever they come to services and taking them back with them to avoid being victims of such crimes. They could also consider hiring a private security company to look after premises.”
