Mpumalanga High Court postpones sentencing of convicted ex-cop Mugiyo Mabunda yet again

The matter had to be postponed yet again, this time because the presiding officer was unable to attend.

The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court has once again postponed the sentencing of the convicted ex-cop, Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda. He briefly appeared on Friday November 4.

The Mpumalanga spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Monica Nyuswa, said the matter was postponed to December 5 in the same court for sentencing, because the presiding officer was unavailable on Friday.

The matter had previously been postponed to November 4 due to power failures and a shortage of water supply in the High Court building.

Mugiyo remains in custody until his next court appearance in December.

He was convicted in June for the premeditated murder of his wife, Tebogo Mabunda.

The court found him guilty of shooting and killing her outside their house in Stonehenge, Mbombela, in 2020. He shot himself too, afterwards, but has since recovered.
