Rapper shines light in Barberton communities

The rapper blends music and tutoring primary learners every Monday to Friday at 16:30. He also gives back to his community by introducing young talents to music.

Apart from releasing motivational and healing music, Sthembiso Maseko is also a beacon of hope in his community, as he helps primary school learners with mathematics and English.

The hip-hop and Afro-pop singer and songwriter, known by his stage name, Swagger T, recently released a song called “Nemimoya”, which teaches people about patience, endurance in life, and always being brave when trying new things.
“The message I’m trying to convey with the song is to let people know that they should be patient towards their dreams. We know in life there are always people who look down on others. Some come to our lives in forms of false pretence. With this song, I’m trying to send healing and light to people who have come across such people,” he explained.

He said it is also spiritual and will guide people to rise above life’s challenges.
“As people we face a lot of challenges in life. Sometimes we do not know how we will survive them, especially dark spirits and jealous people. So with this song, I encourage people to trust in God. There are a lot of things out there, some unseen, but we know God is always with us and fighting on our behalf.”

He said he recruits youngsters into music in an effort to take them off dangerous streets.

“I make every effort to improve the lives of those around me and in my community. I provide the kids a chance to learn music and constantly inspire them to follow their aspirations. Elders in the community support me and are supportive of what I am doing with the children of Umjindi, home to numerous gangs and criminality.”
The rapper juggles both his music and tutoring learners every Monday to Friday at 16:30.
His music is available on all digital music platforms.
