Recycling Awareness Workshop in Elukwatini a great success

Recyclers attended this informative workshop and shared their successes.

“You see trash, we see treasure.” This is a statement altered by waste recyclers who attended a Recycling Awareness Workshop at Elukwatini Environmental Centre near Manzana.

The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs’ (Dardlea) spokesperson, Zanele Shabangu, said the workshop was a collaboration between the Dardlea, Petco, Plastic SA, Packaging SA, Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA).

“Local recyclers in attendance had the opportunity to get information on, among others, how to run a successful recycling business, how to spot good quality plastic and glasses to be collected and how to arrange and sort recycled material. They also got the opportunity to register their businesses on the Seda database.”

Shabangu said some successful recyclers were also present to share their journeys, as a way to motivate the up-and-coming businessmen and -women in the industry.
