Gutshwa organisations work together to donate much-needed school uniforms

Enky Mboweni of Zethu Bar and Lounge said this is their continuous effort of lending a helping hand in the deep rural areas.

The KaBokweni Section 4 Methodist Women’s League and Zethu Bar and Lounge have donated school uniforms and much-needed personal hygiene products to 50 vulnerable learners at Makoko Primary School.

The donation event was held at the school, and the learners enjoyed a good meal sponsored by Zethu Bar and Lounge.

Enky Mboweni of Zethu Bar and Lounge said this is their continuous effort of lending a helping hand in the deep rural areas.
“We heard the plea from the headmaster of the school and we adhered to it. This school is not the first that we assist and it will not be the last, as we aim to curb the social ills in the rural areas part by part.

The school asked for school uniforms, but we as a collective with the churchwomen decided to add more so that the children can be clean and have proper uniforms with which to go to school. If we can work together with other people or donors, a lot of children’s lives can be changed for the better, as they will be motivated to go to school and have a bright future.”

“We came with a bakery lorry full of bread so that the children can also have something to eat in the morning when they get to school. We will continuously work and plough back to the communities in every way we can.”

Thomas Thobela, the principal, said, “We are a rural school in a very remote area, and as such, we have many vulnerable children. Some are from child-headed families, which means they live in poverty. We have noticed how the children come to school without proper uniforms and we decided to appeal for help.

“We are overjoyed that our donors have excelled themselves, and we are really appreciative of that. This school is outdated and has ageing structures, but we hold out hope that some day we will receive assistance to restore it and add a wall in place of our fence to prevent theft. Our appreciation goes out to all of the contributors who made today possible.”
