Mpumalanga Hawks donate much-needed essentials to Matsulu family

The Hawks team has pledged to build a proper house for the family of 15.

Taking some time off their busy schedule, the Mpumalanga Hawks led by provincial head Major General Zodwa Mokoena donated much-needed clothing items and food parcels to a family of 15 members in Matsulu.

This family lives in a dilapidated shack and faces daily struggles. Sometimes they go to bed without having had anything to eat.

As a way of honouring the legacy of the father of the nation and global icon, Tata Nelson Mandela, the Mpumalanga Division of the Hawks’ Directorate for

Priority Crime Investigation (DCPI) chose to aid this family in great need of clothes, bedding, food and above all, a decent shelter.

Mokoena encouraged communities to re-embrace the spirit of ubuntu as a birthday gift to Madiba for the sacrifice he had made for the country. “As communities we should join hands to help people who are in need. We should assist everyone, not looking at race or nationality. We appreciate those who gladly gave and contributed to success of this event,” she said.

Mokoena stressed this was a day of making a difference in the lives of those less privileged, and that no government funding was used to purchase the items donated.

The Mpumalanga DPCI’s spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said, “Every year we celebrate Mandela Day by assisting those in great need. We request our members to identify families and individuals in their communities and we select the ones with the greatest need. Today, we are here in Matsulu to spend our 67 minutes with this family of 15.”

She said after seeing the conditions in which this family lives, the Hawks team was touched and has since pledged to build a structure or a house for them.
