Learners of Entokozweni Secondary School in Kwaggafontein C equipped with gardening skills

The learners spent the day learning how to plant vegetables and how to take care of their produce.

As a way to encourage learners of the importance of producing their own food, an initiative was held at Entokozweni Secondary School in Kwaggafontein C in the Nkangala District.

The event was held on Monday July 25.

This initiative was by the newly elected Nkangala District’s Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development (YARD) committee members, the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (Dardlea) and Build It.

Dardlea spokesperson, Zanele Shabangu, said this was part of Mandela Month, commemorated under the theme: ‘Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are’.

“Garden starter packs and vegetable seedlings were donated to the Grade 11 and 12 Agricultural Science learners. These learners also received practical tips on how to start and maintain a food garden.”
