SPAR Grand Prix Series to feature actress Thandy Matlaila in Mbombela

The annual race will be hosted in Mpumalanga’s capital city, replacing Pietermaritzburg as was initially planned.

Excitement is building ahead of the event as SPAR Grand Prix ambassador and actress Thandy Matlaila (popularly known as Cleo off Mzansi Magic’s The Queen) will be in town on Saturday July 16.

“I was driving around the city and I got curious how the runners will get through the 10km route. The last two races were in the coast, Gqeberha and Durban, so the altitudes are different compared to Mbombela,” Matlaila said.

She highlighted that she cannot wait to witness the tight competition between the winners of the first two races.

Matlaila is a fitness and health enthusiast, as seen on her social media pages, and is joyful about being the ambassador for such a profound race.

“Being part of the 2022 SPAR Grand Prix women’s race has allowed me to get to know women better and understand that fitness and health is a personal thing. These women run against themselves more than anything. They want to be better than their last run and it is motivating for me.

“Moreover, the race is about encouraging other women. I remember a moment when a woman came up to me and said that she is inspired by my fitness journey. We also get to share motivation with one another as women,” she shared.

The actress wished every runner the best for tomorrow’s race. Unfortunately, she said she would not be able to take part in the race, but she will be ready to welcome the runners at the finish line.

Spectators are welcome to give their support to the runners. The race will be live-streamed at 07:30 on the SPAR Grand Prix Facebook page.
