Night of the Kings is finally here

The event seeks to reignite the passion of men to rise and take their positions as leaders.

Tickets for the first instalment of the Night of the Kings are already available, and delivery on request is also on offer. Scheduled for this Saturday at the trusted Emnotweni Arena, this annual event, a concept of Nozipho Zee and Buttons Holdings in collaboration with the renowned

Dr Eric Khumalo, seeks to reignite the passion of men to rise and take their positions as leaders.

“The reason why we are seeing the rise of gender-based violence cases is the fact that men have lost their way and forgotten their roles whether in their families, church, businesses or positions of leadership.

This event of men under one roof seeks to address and reignite that lost spark or flame,” said Nozipho.

She said the country has been marred by so many challenges, from a lack of leadership to crime against children and women, and this, according to her, is because men have lost their way.

“The positioning statement for the event is ‘The Man, The Leader’, because men are inherently leaders of the family, and this leadership role also finds expression and resonance in society and other facets of life.

This leadership role must, however, not be rooted in patriarchal influences, but take into consideration the humanity and rights of others, especially women and children who are vulnerable in the main.

The role of men must remain constant, resolute and free from distortions from dynamics of the changing times.

We have seen recent developments in which some men are trapped in dark portals due to circumstances compelling them to affirm their masculinity through gender-based violence, femicide and other ills, contrary to their reason of being.

This tendency undermines their inherent role of being protectors, providers and leaders of family and society. This is evidenced by the staggering GBV statistics in South Africa. In 2021, more than 900 women were killed in just three months,” said Nozipho.

She said it is an indisputable fact that most men do not make their health a priority, and therefore end up being adversely affected by diseases that could have been prevented, had they consulted health practitioners in time.

“With the intensifying tough economic situation in our country, it becomes imperative to consider other ways to augment one’s income. The Night of the Kings will create a platform for robust engagements on these and other issues that affect men. Through this event, men will be challenged and encouraged to make a serious introspection to reclaim their rightful positions in their families and society in general.

Issues such as depression and stress can affect their sex lives and general

health, and consequently affect their families and marriages, and all these issues will be tackled during this event,” she said.

This Kings seminar will be hosted by Khumalo, Nedbank’s Gert Adam, Pr Bongani Sibiya, Vusi Mona, a journalist and former editor of City Press, and Bongani Matsane.
