Foundation motivates schoolgirls to empower themselves

The aim of the organisation is to restore the dignity of a girl by providing youth and women empowerment advice and support.

As part of their mission to advocate for the importance of education, the SEZ Foundation donated 150 packets of sanitary towels to Portia Shabangu Secondary School last Friday.

The foundation gave a sex talk to the female pupils in an attempt to motivate them to focus on their goals. SEZ is a non-profit organisation that advocates against teenage pregnancy. The name SEZ was derived from the founder’s names, Sezanele Zondi. The aim of the organisation is to restore the dignity of a girl by providing youth and women empowerment advice and support.

During its back-to-school drive, Zondi said girls should not miss school due to something like menstruation. “Our girls did not choose to be born this way; they did not choose to menstruate. It is our responsibility to help them where we can ,so that their career is not hindered by them not being able to go to school,” she said.

Thabiso Mahlalela, the councillor of Tekwane South, threw his weight behind this initiative. He said his foundation will continue to lobby the government to give pupils these essentials for free and that the patron is of the view that condoms should be sold at a subsidised price and sanitary towels given for free.
