Majuba urges learners not to cross waterlogged bridges and streams

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba requests learners and parents to be extremely careful when walking to schools and not to take risks of crossing dangerous and waterlogged bridges or streams.

The Mpumalanga Province has experienced a fair share of heavy rains throughout the Festive Holidays and these rains are still persisting to date.

In cases where it is clear that it will be dangerous for learners, teachers and non-teaching staff to reach a school, it will be prudent not to take the risk. The safety of everyone remains paramount.

School Management Teams are requested to maintain constant communication with parents on such matters in a proactive manner at all times.

“While we appreciate that learners must be in class learning at all times, we acknowledge the fact that the persisting rains are taking its toll on roads infrastructure and as such, it remains essential that the safety of our learners and teachers be not compromised by such developments. We, therefore, request parents to be extra vigilant and communicate constantly with school management teams to prevent incidents that may have regrettable consequences.

In cases where learners are unable to reach schools, for this reason, it will be advisable for schools to advise learners on how to study from home,” said MEC Majuba.
