Trial of man accused of killing wife resumes in Nelspruit High Court

The defence and state prosecutor had agreed on the postponement of the trial last year.

The murder-accused ex-cop, Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda’s trial resumed in the Nelspruit High Court on Monday January 10.

Mabunda is facing charges of murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife, Tebogo Mabunda, outside their home in Stonehenge in May.
The trial was supposed to last from January 10 to 12, however, on Tuesday January 11, the matter was postponed to March 28 to 30.Three people took the stand.

According to one of them, the accused would allegedly use his firearm to shoot in the air on some New Year’s Days.

Francois Viljoen, a cellphone expert, gave a statement about the phone records of the deceased. According to him, the records contain various details such as incoming and outgoing calls, call logs and SMSs.

Suzzan Sibongile Matsane, the deceased’s aunt, also took the stand. She was the first family member to arrive at the house after the incident had occurred. In her statement, she said the deceased and herself were supposed to have met after work on that day.

“I spoke to her during the day, arranging to meet, however, later, when I phoned her to let her know that I was about to leave Hazyview, she did not answer her phone. I then left Hazyview for Mbombela.”
