Two suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

 Two suspects, aged 29 and 32 were arrested on Wednesday December 29 at Sabie, by members of the Nelspruit Flying Squad Unit for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to the report, the two suspects were driving in a vehicle that was allegedly hijacked at Kabokweni when a tracking company followed up on the GPS coordinates to locate the vehicle and also alerted the Nelspruit Flying Squad Unit.

Upon noticing they were being tailed by police as well as members from the tracking company, the suspects fled into a bush nearby and were later picked up by a friend.

The police officers then managed to gather information which led them to a house in Sabie where the two were cornered and arrested. They further recovered three 9mm pistols with ammunition, as well as suspected stolen cellphones.

“The two suspects were charged accordingly and are due to appear at the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 30, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of suspected stolen property. Police cannot rule out the possibility of linking the two to other crimes committed in other areas around the province,” said police spokesperson Captain Gugu Phiri.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has praised the members for the arrests made as well as the recovery of the firearms.
