Eligible learners asked to get vaxxed

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, has urged learners who are eligible for the vaccine to get vaccinated and be safe.

NOKANENG –  Majuba urged pupils during his visit to Litho Secondary School in Nokaneng, Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, where he was monitoring the grade 12 national senior certificate (NSC) examination.

The visit comes at a backdrop of a majority of the candidates will finish writing the examinations this week. Litho Secondary School has an enrolment of 60 grade 12 candidates for the 2021 NSC examinations.

In the 2020 examinations, the school achieved 69% and has set its target at 80% this year.

“We wish you well with the examinations and we wish you a long life. You can only live long if you vaccinate. We thus urge all of you to use this opportunity to heed the call made by the president to vaccinate so that you may protect yourself and those close to you. Please desist from believing what you read and learn from social media theories that talk negatively about the vaccines. They do work, so please get vaccinated,” he said.

“We are further urging all eligible learners to take advantage of this period to vaccinate against Covid-19 in order to protect themselves and their immediate families and friends. It is the right thing to do,” he appealed.

Majuba also cautioned learners against participating in the pens down parties.

“We also want to urge you to donate your school uniforms to those who may need them instead of destroying them as a result of these parties. We will work with parents and community leaders to ensure that these parties are curbed while at the same time working towards the vaccination drive of our pupils and children. As a department, we discourage the learners from engaging in the devastating bad behaviour which brings about destructive effects such as drug abuse, violence, sexual immorality, physical injuries and sometimes death,” concluded Majuba.
