Bomb scare halts Msibi bail application

Court proceedings have been halted at the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court due to the threat of a bomb in the building.

A threat that a bomb had been planted at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court abruptly halted the bail proceedings of Mandla Msibi and his co-accused on Wednesday.

Mpumalanga News was in court at the time and was asked to evacuate the building, along with others who were in court.

Msibi (45), the former MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs in Mpumalanga has been charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder for his alleged role in an incident during September in which two people were shot and killed.

He and two of his co-accused, Njabulo Dennis Mkhonto and Cyril Mnisi, appeared in court this morning to continue their bail application when the court announced that everyone would have to evacuate the building due to the threat of a bomb being planted inside the building.

A provincial police spokesperson, Col Donald Mdhluli, said the bomb squad has been called out to investigate. Police are at the scene to monitor the situation.
