Suspect still at large after delivery truck hijacking

 A 30-year-old armed suspect was arrested but his acquaintance is still at large following a delivery truck hijacking o Thursday.

According to Capt Shirley Simba of the KaBokweni SAPS, the suspect was arrested in the afternoon following a chase by the police. “At about 12:30, the two suspects hijacked a stationary Clover truck.

The members who were on duty received information about the incident. They followed the tip-off and on arrival at the scene they arrested one suspect. They recovered nine live rounds inside a red VW Polo Classic which had been used in committing the offence.”

“According to the truck driver, he was delivering Clover products to the KaBokweni Shopping Complex when the suspects stopped next to him and locked the truck. They then removed him from his seat and one suspect drove the truck. They decided to stop in a secluded area and started offloading the groceries while trying to break open the safe.”

“When the suspects saw the police approaching, they fled. A car chase ensued and the SAPS managed to arrest one suspect. The Polo was later found parked in KaBokweni and was confiscated.”

The suspect who escaped was the driver of the Polo. Simba added that they have seen an increase in delivery trucks getting hijacked in KaBokweni.
