Learners to attend Community and Justice Programme award ceremony

The programme includes teaching the learners about their individual rights and responsibilities in as far as their interaction with the law enforcement agencies are concerned.

The Safer South Africa Foundation will host an award ceremony at Lekazi Central High School on Thursday. This award ceremony follows the implementation of the Community and Justice Programme.

Eighty-four learners participated in this programme and will receive their certificates.

The spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Education, Jasper Zwane, said, “Through this programme, school learners were taught about the roles and responsibilities of various law enforcement practitioners such as the police, traffic officials, prosecutors, court officials, correctional services and human rights practitioners.

“The programme was part of community building initiative to mobilise and empower communities to join hands in the fight against crime. This is in order to contribute to the improvement of the safety of the learners’ communities and to promote enhanced levels of security in South Africa by providing an independent perspective on community policing, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders and road safety. We will work in particular with all community-based formations to help improve safety,” he explained.
