Badplaas man arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer

The alleged attack occurred in a tavern on Saturday evening (September 18) while the police were attending to a crime scene.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a Badplaas police officer on Saturday night (September 18).

The alleged attack is reported to have taken place outside a tavern. The provincial police spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, said the officer was on duty and had gone out with his crew to investigate a murder at this local tavern on Saturday evening.

“The constable was allegedly attacked and severely assaulted as he got out of his state vehicle upon arrival at the scene,” said Selvy. He said the constable was rushed to the hospital for treatment and was later discharged.

A case was opened and the 29-year-old man was arrested on Sunday at a tavern a few hours after the alleged assault.

Selvy said he was expected to appear in the Carolina Magistrate’s Court today (September 20) facing a charge of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
