Tonga man found with 110 bags of dagga and arrested

 The man is due to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate's Court on Thursday September 16.

The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, has welcomed the news of a 44-year-old man who was arrested on Wednesday September 15 in Mzinti near Tonga. He had been found in possession of dagga to the estimated street value of about R252 000.

The provincial police spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, said, “It is reported that the Tonga police were busy patrolling around the area when they spotted a suspicious-looking VW Polo. The police members stopped the vehicle and upon searching it, found 110 bags of compressed dagga weighing about 168 kilograms.”

According to Mohlala, the man was arrested and the vehicle confiscated. “The suspect is charged with dealing in dagga. The police believe that the man is from the Kingdom of eSwatini,” he explained.

Manamela applauded the members for their vigilance which yielded positive results, as the man was arrested before the dagga had reached its destination.
