Police arrest suspect with dagga worth more than R1 million

He was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation, #DrugsOffTheStreets, conducted in Low's Creek on July 21.

A 38-year-old man is due to appear in the Low’s Creek Magistrate’s Court today on charges of being in possession of dagga valued at R1 million.

According to the police report, members from the unit were informed about a grey Toyota single-cab bakkie with one occupant involved in an illicit activity near Low’s Creek.

“They mobilised the police on duty, who spotted the said vehicle, stopped it for a search and discovered 19 bags loaded with dagga weighing a total of about 341,7 kilograms.

“Preliminary investigations have since revealed that the suspect is from the Kingdom of eSwatini, and apart from the charge of dealing in dagga, the police indicated that there are possibilities the suspect may face more charges relating to being in the country illegally,” said Brig Leonard Hlathi, the provincial police spokesperson.
