Abantu bomthetho fight their way to fourth place

GladAfrica Championship campaigners, TS Sporting, have in a short space of time turned the tables and have since climbed the ladder to fourth place on the log.

Sporting, which started the season at a snail’s pace, that saw them dropping points, seemed to have quickly fixed their mistakes as they found their footing and scoring boots again.

After 19 games, Mpumalanga’s only representative in the country’s football second tier, the team have accumulated 29 points. Abantu Bomthetho, as they are fondly known, have collected 12 points from their past four consecutive outings.

They thrashed Jomo Cosmos 3-1 in their own backyard at Tsakane Stadium on March 6. Sporting went on to register a 1-0 victory against Polokwane City at KaBokweni Stadium on March 14.

To prove their last two wins were not a fluke, they hammered Steenberg United by 3-1, also at KaBokweni Stadium, and continued their rampage against JDR Stars which they beat 3-1.

The last time Sporting lost a league game was against Free State Stars on February 17. TS Sporting’s recent good run in the league has seen them closing the gap with the teams on top challenging for glory.

They are only three points behind log leaders Richards Bay and a win could see them climbing to the summit. Advocate S’lungu Thobela’s boys will look to continue their dominance when they host relegation bound, Bizana Pondo Chiefs at KaBokweni Stadium on Sunday. Bizana Pondo Chiefs are trailing at the bottom of the log with 14 points after 18 games.
