Mpumalanga cabinet reshuffle sees a multitude of changes

Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane announced a cabinet reshuffle that saw four MECs being replaced.

The former MEC for the Department of Human Settlements, Norah Mahlangu, has been replaced by Speedy Mashilo. Gabisile Tshabalala, the former MEC for community safety, security and liaison, was ousted from the cabinet, too, and replaced by the former MEC for the department, Vusi Shongwe.

Pat Ngomane, the former MEC of finance, economic development and tourism, was also replaced due to the cabinet reshuffling. Vusi Mkhwatshwa will take up that office.

Public works, roads and transport’s MEC, Gillion Mashigo, has been replaced by Mohita Latchminarain. The reshuffling also saw the former speaker of the legislature, Busisiwe Shiba, appointed as the MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

The former MEC for this department, Mandla Msibi, was shifted to the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs.

MEC Thandi Shongwe has been moved from the Department of Social Development to the Department of Sports, Culture and Recreation, while MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali was shifted from sports, culture and recreation to social development. The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, and the MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, will retain their respective positions.

“The performance of the newly constituted executive will be monitored against specific outcomes and where there is non-performance, decisive action will be taken,” concluded Mtshweni-Tsipane.
