MEC applauds stellar grade 12 results

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, has applauded all the best performing districts, circuits, schools and learners, saying they have done Mpumalanga proud. “I wish to congratulate both districts under the stewardship of Madame Lorraine Goba and Douglas Maja respectively.

Ehlanzeni District recorded 74,5 per cent, which is also above the provincial performance, while Gert Sibande District registered a 70,9 per cent pass rate. “We are encouraged by the fact that all four districts within the province managed to perform above 70 per cent under the trying conditions we experienced this past year. Indeed, we expect improvement moving on,” said Majuba.

The Emakhazeni Local Municipality recorded an impressive 88 per cent pass mark, which surpassed all the 17 provincial local municipalities within the province. “In this regard, we wish to congratulate the executive mayor of Emakhazeni, Cllr TD Ngwenya, the circuit manager, Nomvula Motloung, and their teams. Work well done and congratulations for the sterling performance,” applauded Majuba.

Out of the 71 circuits within the province, Mbombela Circuit is the overall best-performing one, having to record a 90,3 per cent pass rate compared to 89,2 per cent in 2019. In this circuit, 1 458 learners registered to write the 2020 NSC Examination, 1 418 wrote it, and out of those, 1 281 made the grade. In 2020, 555 schools served as exam centres that administered grade 12 examinations.

Thirty of these schools recorded a 100 per cent pass rate. The overall best-performing school in the province is Magigwana Secondary School within Thulamahashe Circuit in Bohlabela District. Two-hundred and seventy-six learners from this school wrote the 2020 grade 12 examination and all of them passed.
