Traditional music legends honoured at Satma Awards

Whatever you do, you must do it with all the power you have. Love what you do and in turn it will love you.

The atmosphere was electric on Saturday evening as traditional artists and supporters from all walks of life attended the colourful 15th South African Traditional Music (Satma) Awards.
The glittering event happened under strict Covid-19 regulations at Ingwenyama Conference & Sport Resort.

Former Ligwalagwala FM presenter, Magidza Eludzakeni, born Stanford Mvikeli Mhlanga, known for his genuine siSwati language and praises for the Swati kings, walked away with a legendary award for best radio presenter.

Barberton-based siSwati singer, Nana Rinah Malambe, known as Make Shelangubo, was also one of provincial recipients of the 2020 legendary awards.

Stimela Jazz Group, founded by the late Ray Phiri, was also honoured with an award.

Steve Kekana, one of oldest jazz singers in the country, received the best singer of the year.
“I am over the moon. This year I became a witness of God’s greatness. Those who think I am not a believer, let me tell them I am. In a year surrounded by the outbreak of Covid-19 I have seen the greatness and brightest face of God, not once or twice, but three times.

“Firstly I was honoured with a doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of South Africa. Secondly I was nominated as the ambassador for the Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition. And thirdly Satma honoured me with the best legendary award today.
“Thank you for the people’s love and support. Thank you so much, Satma, keep it up,” said Kekana.
He urged young and upcoming artists to persevere.

“Whatever you do, you must do it with all the power you have. Love what you do and in turn it will love you. Today is an example of what I am saying. I worked so hard for over 40 years in this sector. Today the music industry and fraternity is showing me that they love me,” he said
