People living with albinism inspire a young artist from Pienaar

Her dream is to spread the message of hope, love and respect for all children and adults living with albinism.

One of the province’s youngest rappers, Cute Nini, has finally released her much-awaited single album.

Born Courage Collin Harold, this 12-year-old bubbly future star said the single titled “Asihlonipheni ama albinism”, was inspired by people living with albinism. This new single also contains hit tracks such as “Asikaze sahluleka” and “Xola sithasami”. She spoke to Lowvelder Express about her new release. “My dream is to spread the message of hope, love and respect for all children and adults living with albinism,” said Nini. She writes and composes her own music.

She said she has been using most of her time during lockdown to fine-tune her skills and to later record her single. Her mother, Trunelda Ngobe, who has supported her music career ever since she developed an interest in it, said Nini has great potential of making her mark in the music industry. “She came up with the song, ‘Asihlonipheni ama albinism’ after she witnessed a traumatic incident involving one of her friends who lives with this condition. Her friend had suffered abuse and struggled for years to cope.

“The child was afraid of being kidnapped and killed, like many others who live with albinism and were reportedly kidnapped and killed in the province,” said Ngoma. “This has in a way motivated her to compose a song about the challenges faced by people living with albinism,” she continued. “They are human too. They have the same rights to life as the rest of us,” said Nini. Her music is already available on online music stores, including SAMRO RiSA, iTunes, Spotify and Deezer.
