Mbombela United break rules and will be relegated

Mbombela United have been found guilty of fielding an ineligible player and docked 23 log points after a South African Football Association (Safa) arbitration hearing.

This was confirmed by Oupa Matsebula of Mbombela United on Tuesday. The matter was heard on Sunday evening.

This drops Tingwenyama from 14th (32 points) on the GladAfrica log to 16th (nine points) and last place and relegates them to the ABC Motsepe League.

TS Sporting finished in 15th place after the final round of matches on Sunday and were to be relegated.

Mbombela United’s fate moves Abantu Bemthetho up to 14th place and they will remain in the National First Division.

The hearing stemmed from a complaint by TS Sporting concerning Mbombela United player, Sabelo Ndzinisa. Sporting claimed Ndzinisa was on their books and therefore played for Mbombela United illegally. The player had already signed for Sporting, and then also signed a contract with Mbombela United.

He made 20 appearances in 30 matches for Tingwenyama this league season, during which the club earned 23 log points.

Despite the verdict stating otherwise, Matsebula claimed that Ndzinisa was never contracted to TS Sporting. He would not comment further on the matter.

Vusi Ntimane of TS Sporting said the club would not comment as they were awaiting the verdict at the time of going to press. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Safa are yet to release statements on the matter.
