TS Sporting and Mbombela United need to come out, guns blazing

Both teams need to win to salvage some pride from what has been a disappointing season

Mbombela United remained cemented in 14th place on the GladAfrica Championship log after a 0-0 draw with Cape Umoya United at Randburg Rugby Stadium yesterday afternoon.

It was Tingwenyama’s first match since the league resumed.

Mbombela United have one point more than Jomo Cosmos and five more than bottom-placed Royal Eagles.

TS Sporting drew 0-0 with second-placed Swallows at Tsakane Stadium yesterday and have only claimed one point from their two matches since a return to action.

The team remains in 13th place on the log table and they could be in serious trouble should they not score a victory in the next game. With five matches remaining they are too close to the relegation zone.

On Saturday at 15:30 Mbombela United will play Richards Bay at Tuks Stadium. Richards Bay are 10th on the log and showed their determination by defeating TS Sporting 2-1 on Sunday.

With six wins in 24 games, United need to throw caution to the wind and adapt to a more attacking style of play. They need maximum points to assure they are not faced with possible relegation.

On Tuesday August 18, TS Sporting will face Steenberg United at Tsakane Stadium. Abantu Bemthetho need a change in fortune. With a must-win scenario facing them in their last five matches, there is no room for defensive football. Goals are needed.

These are must-win matches for the Lowveld-based teams. It is now time for Mbombela United and TS Sporting to show what they are made of – they owe this to their fans.
