Nkomazi municipality provides struggling communities with water

In response to the water challenges faced by many communities in Nkomazi, especially during the height of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) has installed water tanks in some of the hardest-hit villages.

MZINTI – This was communicated by council’s spokesman, Cyril Ripinga, during a telephonic interview with Mpumalanga News.

“We have installed water tanks in many parts of our villages, mostly targeting the critical areas where water was a problem.

“What we do is get our water tankers to distribute and fill the public water tanks daily, making sure that communities no longer have to travel long distances to get water,”
said Ripinga.

He added that the scarcity of water was caused mostly by a lack of rainfall, which left rivers and dams running dry.
“There has not been any rainfall and the rivers are slowly running dry, but we are trying our level best as a municipality to ensure that the community water tanks are always full. A number of our villages still receive potable water,” he went on.

He said since the country was also hit by the coronavirus pandemic, with the washing of hands being one of the
preventative measures to fight the scourge, NLM has pulled out all stops and refocused all resources, especially the provision of water to communities.
