Premier encourages Mpumalanga Province’s youth

As the country commemorates Youth Month amid the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, the premier of the province, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, has called on all youngsters to emulate the youth of 1976 and lead by example.

MBOMBELA – This was shared while speaking to Mpumalanga News on Tuesday as the country paid homage to the youth of 1976.

“As we commemorate Youth Day, I urge young people to play their part in combating the greatest battle facing our generation, the pandemic that is Covid-19. We urge them to lead by example by practicing social distancing, wearing masks and regularly washing their hands,” she appealed.

Mtshweni-Tsipane further urged youngsters to refrain from vandalising school infrastructure and spoke harshly against gender-based violence.

“I admonish the youth to report their peers who vandalise our school infrastructure. They know these people and live among them. Please play your part and preserve our hard-gained education facilities and report perpetrators to the police.

“Furthermore, it is important for society at large to identify perpetrators of gender-based violence as they live among us. I urge our people not to disregard the cries from their neighbours’ houses, due to the belief that is it not their business.

“Addressing this scourge is everyone’s responsibility. By keeping silent when you know a perpetrator, you must know that you are complicit in the commission of such violent acts. It is time for everybody to name and shame those who abuse women so that no place in our community is safe for them to commit their heinous deeds,” added Mtshweni-Tsipane.

She concluded by saying that today’s young people enjoy the fruits of the seeds planted by the youth of 1976.
