Shortage of face masks? Tebogo has the solution

His mask designs are inspired by his love for art and faith in God.

MBOMBELA-  When he couldn’t find face masks in stores a few days before the National Lockdown, fashion designer, Tebogo Lubisi decided to make and sell them.

Through his brand, Royal Vintage, he and his fiancé made 50 washable masks that they donated to some members of their church and those who could not afford them.

“Masks are sold out at all pharmacies and stores and with that, I saw a gap in the market. I believe in God and through these difficult times I thought I could contribute positively with my gift and started sewing,” said Lubisi.

He explained that as much as he is willing to give and assist those in need, there are financial implications he considered like electricity.

The World Health Organization recently held a media briefing and it was stated that reviewing of whether healthy people could benefit from wearing face masks would continue. However, Lubisi believes they can help curb the spread of the Covid-19.

“We’ve decided to charge R15 a mask to be able to have enough electricity to make more because they are in demand and they are not available for people to buy.”

Asked what is unique about his masks, he explained that the type of fabric he chose symbolizes his love for art in faith in God.

“It’s a matter of bringing hope to the people. The colors and design show that we may be going through tough times, but there is hope.”
