Buscor not increasing ticket prices

Following a public outcry against a recent announcement about Buscor's yearly ticket price adjustment, the company's executive chairperson, Dr Nora Fakude-Nkuna, assured her passengers that her company will not be increasing ticket prices.

“It is a norm that every year, as fuel, diesel, oil and even food prices go up, we also slightly adjust our ticket prices.
“But it is worth noting that as we increase those ticket prices, we do so in a manner that is accommodating to our passengers, motivated by a number of factors.

“Normally we effect these price changes during April each year. As usual, Buscor management sat down in the beginning of the year, just after the minister of finance’s budget speech, to also discuss and engage one another on the adjustment of our ticket pricing,” she said.

“Again, it is worth noting that we held our meeting and discussions before the country and the rest of the world was struck by the Covid-19 coronavirus. And when we were adjusting these prices, we never anticipated that we would be hit by the virus in this manner.

“The new adjustment was indeed discussed and approved before the corona pandemic. But again, after this virus, we took a decision that we are not going to put these changes or price adjustments into effect until such time when it has been cleared or things are back to normal,” she continued.

She said the adverts in the media only went ahead because they had already been booked and allocated space in some of the local newspapers.

“When the adverts hit the public, Buscor management and its stakeholders had already taken a decision that the adjustments can only be effected months after Covid-19 coronavirus has been cleared.

“In short, Buscor is not going to implement changes on ticket prices. The prices will remain the same until further notice when the country and the rest of the world is out of this crisis,” committed Fakude-Nkuna.

“We would, therefore, like to apologise to our passengers for any inconveniences caused by our recently advertised changes in ticket prices,” she concluded.
