Police arrest man for the alleged rape of his daughters in Masoyi

On January 4, the man allegedly raped the 13-year-old girl who then reported the matter to her teachers at school the following day.

Masoyi police have arrested a 43-year-old man yesterday for allegedly raping his two daughters aged 16 and 13 whom he lives with in Masoyi.

It is alleged that the mother of the girls left them with their father due to her and their father’s abusive relationship.

On January 4, the man allegedly raped the 13-year-old girl who then reported the matter to her teachers at school the following day. The teachers reported the matter to the police. The man was arrested yesterday afternoon.

Sgt Naniki Nonyane, spokesperson for Masoyi Police confirmed the arrest. She revealed that the minor told police that his dad had previously raped her last year, a matter which she told her older sister, who in turn allegedly told her that their father sleeps with her and threatened to kill her if she tells anyone.

Nonyana alleges that the minors had reported their rape to other family members on previous occasions, but nothing was done against him and they did not report the matter to the police.
“We have taken the children for counselling and they will be placed in a place of safety. The suspect will appear in court soon,” said Nonyane.
She also warns families against hiding perpetrators of domestic violence. She said women should think of the safety of their children before leaving them with men, including relatives
