Masoyi-based police constable receives an excellence award from the Minister of Police

Mnisi received the Commissioner’s Excellence Award.

A police officer from Masoyi Police Station, Const Joseph Mnisi, received an excellence award from the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, for his excellent work during the seventh National Excellence Awards at Boardwalk Hotel, Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape on Sunday.

Mnisi received a the Commissioner’s Excellence Awards, a special category whose recipients are nominated by the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner.

“It is such an honour to be nominated for this category; it means my work is recognised. I will push on harder in serving the people of my community,” he said.

Mnisi became the talk of Masoyi when he landed Julius Mndawe, a suspected serial killer, behind bars last July in connection with the murder and rape of five women in Numbi.

Mndawe’s trial is expected to resume in March. Mnisi also had a victory when his investigations landed Themba Bheki Simelane with four life sentences for a string a murders in the province recently.

Brig Leonard Hlathi said the province received three top awards among many. “A detailed information on the awards will follow at a later stage,” he said.
He added that the annual event is held to recognise and acknowledge the men and women in blue, including support staff, reservists and community policing forums, who displayed extraordinary excellence and commitment in the execution of their daily duties and beyond.

This year’s awards boasted 45 categories, including the special awards.
