Call for nominations of hospital board members

The MEC for health, Ms S J Manzini, invites nominations for membership to hospital boards in 32 public hospitals of Mpumalanga, as per stipulations of section 41 (6) of the National Health Act, Act 61 of 2003.

 Responsibilities

 Hospital board membership is voluntary work and board members are responsible for

  • Supporting hospital management with decisions, and the design of policy and strategy
  • Providing advisory and technical support
  • Oversight on customer care
  • Advice on finances and expenditure reviews
  • Support on Human Resources issues
  • Strengthening community participation
  • Provide advocacy for both communities and the hospital
  • Mobilize for sponsorship in line with relevant legislation and prescripts.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria

  • Must represent the communities served by the hospitals, including interest groups representing users
  • Must be older than 18 years of age
  • A person who has not been certified by a court of law as being of unsound mind
  • A person who has not previously been convicted of a crime without an option of a fine, unless:
  • They have received a pardon
  • A period of ten (10) years has expired since release from prison and certified as fully rehabilitated by the Department of Correctional Services.

N.B. The applicant shall be expected to disclose his/her status as stipulated under points above.

 Applicants must have expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Accounting
  • Financial Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Information Management
  • Legal Matters.

Applications from the following universities that are associated with the department will be welcomed:

  • University of Witwatersrand
  • University of Limpopo
  • University of Pretoria.

The term of office will be three (3) years. All members will be required to attend an orientation training session. Meetings are to be held on a quarterly basis and the stipend of R1 500 shall be paid per sitting to successful appointed (non-government employees) board members

Nominees must quote the reference number, as it appears at the end of this advertisement and the hospital under which they will be serving as board members.

Applications should be submitted on the Z83 form obtained from any public service department and should be accompanied by recently certified copies of qualifications (preferably within 3 months), ID/passport, curriculum vitae and any supporting motivation from relevant organizations including names and contact details of three references must be submitted.
