Struggle stalwart, Saul Mkhize’s family left homeless in Tsakane

The cause of the fire is not known.

The wife of the late freedom fighter, Saul Mkhize,79- year-old Angelina Slinky Mkhize (79) and her grandchildren, have been left homeless at her maternal home after their house was burnt to ashes in Malandela Street, Tsakane in Brakpan, Gauteng.

“My father had two wives, my mother is the first one. She became permanently disabled after the death of my father in 1983 hence she is not known in Mpumalanga,” said Gift Mkhize.
The incident happened last week Wednesday night.

“The cause of the fire is not known. It looks like the fire started from the garage and extended to the kitchen before spreading to the whole house,” he said.

He said that the family’s attempts to call fire brigades were fruitless as they arrived at the scene without water. “They had to call for back-up which arrived about 15 minutes later, but then the whole house was ablaze,” he said.

Mkhize said her mother lost her wheelchair, clothes and school uniform for her grandchildren, plus furniture was all burnt. Family members are currently living with relatives.

“We would appreciate any form of help so that we can have shelter above our heads again,” he said.
