How beneficiaries can avoid social grants payment card fraud

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) would like to alert social grant beneficiaries to be vigilant against any suspicious action towards social grant gold payment card fraud.
If anything untoward or looking uncommon which might have also created doubts the beneficiary must immediately call or visit nearest local SASSA offices for assistance.
“Upon visiting the nearest offices beneficiaries must produce the following:
- An Identity Document (ID)
- Social grant gold payment card
- Proof of residence
- An affidavit confirming the correctness of personal details and it must declare and confirm that the unlawful transaction or withdrawal was not committed by the beneficiary or rightful owner of the payment card.
- If the beneficiary receive a social grant payment through a personal bank account must bring along proof of banking details.

Social grant beneficiaries must note that it is their responsibility to safeguard the payment cards, pin codes and avoid throwing away the slips, as containing personal information of the beneficiary, which fraudsters can use to access money in the account.
Beneficiaries have a right to change the password at SASSA offices or South African Post Offices when suspecting that the pin code has been compromised or no longer a secret.
