Young Cruiz grows with his rhymes

The 19-year-old hip-hop artist’s love for music dates back to his childhood days when he fell in love with rap music and was encouraged by a friend to start writing his own lyrics.

After losing his mother at a young age, Simangaliso Innocent Ndlovu, also known as Young Cruiz from Zwelisha, took an interest in music after having relocated to live with his grandmother.

The 19-year-old hip-hop artist’s love for music dates back to his childhood days when he fell in love with rap music and was encouraged by a friend to start writing his own lyrics.

“I loved imitating some rappers and would mime their songs. In 2010 I finally decided to give it a try and started working on my rhymes. I have never looked back since.”

In 2012 he released his first single, “No Reason” and ventured into producing, as well as learning to play musical instruments to boost his craft. He started getting booked to perform at night clubs and events.

“Being booked at different places really helped me grow and that is where I gained exposure and inspiration to compile more tracks like my latest release, ‘Damn You’ which I am currently promoting,” said Young Cruiz.

The single is inspired by his upbringing and past experiences. “There was a time when I struggled at home and academically, which led me to believe less in myself. I certainly do not regret taking my friend’s advice to give music a try, because that is when I gained self-confidence. People started noticing me and praised me for my lyrics, and I can proudly say I have found myself and and I like what I have become,” he said excitedly.
