Parolee sentenced to life for murder

The accused was previously convicted and sentenced to 15 years for murder after he strangled his child and was released on parole after serving seven and a half years.

On the evening of November 25 in 2016, Stanley Sabiya attacked a resident of Marite Trust who was entering his house driving a silver Jaguar sedan.

According to the Hawks, Sabiya approached the deceased and demanded the car keys before shooting him dead. The vehicle was recovered  from a person who had bought it at Tshabalala Trust the following day after it was traced.

“It was discovered that it was the suspect’s cousin who bought the car.  When the suspect was arrested in Middelburg he was found in possession of the victim’s wallet,”said  the Hawks spokesperson, Dineo Sekgotodi.

Sabiya was found guilty by the Nelspruit High Court on Thursday (October 3) and was sentenced to life imprisonment and another 15 years for armed robbery. The accused also has a previous conviction where he was sentenced to 15 years for murder after he strangled his child and was released on parole after serving seven and half years.
