Company directors sentenced for fraud worth over R5 million

Their companies were not registered with the Department of Education to render any service.

MBOMBELA- Three co-directors of Gauwes Waste Trading and Hlonise Homes Trading were convicted and sentenced to prison for defrauding the Department of Education R5,5 million.

The trio appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Friday, September 27.  According to the Hawks, both companies were not registered with the department to render any service.

Musawenkosi Caldon Sigasa (47), Jabulile Gladys Gaarekoe (80), and Thabang Nathaniel Gaarekoe (52) fraudulently received the money between August and September in 2009.

Sigasa was sentenced to 12 years in prison of which four years is suspended for a period of five years. Gaarekoe was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and suspended for a period of five years while Nathaniel Gaarekoe was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment of which four years is also suspended for five years.
