Man in court for the alleged murder of his grandmother

Samuel Malele, allegedly assaulted his grandmother Maria Mashego, with a shovel while accusing her of witchcraft.

A 95-year-old gogo was brutally killed by her 39-year-old grandson who accused her of witchcraft at Matenteng Trust, Bushbuckridge.

The incident happened on Monday at around 09:30.

According to Capt Mpho Nonyana, spokesperson for Acornhoek Cluster, the accused, Samuel Malele, was found by his uncle assaulting his granny, Maria Mashego, with a shovel while accusing her of witchcraft.

It is alleged that the accused warned his uncle not to come anywhere near him, threatening to hit him with the shovel as well.

“The uncle then went out to call for the help from members of the community. Upon his return he found the accused sitting on a sofa and the pensioner lying in a pool of blood,” said Nonyana.

All role players were summoned to the scene.

The pensioner was certified dead on the scene by paramedics. She had visible injuries on the right-hand side of her scalp.

The suspect was immediately arrested.

On September 17 appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder. He was remanded in custody until September 20 for his bail application.
