Duo get life sentence for murder

The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court also gave the two 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances

Two men, Selby John Mabila (29) and Paul Mathebula (35) were sentenced to life imprisonment for the gruesome murder of Annatjie Myburgh.

On August 16, the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court also gave the two 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and a further eight years for kidnapping. The sentences run concurrently.

Myburgh was hijacked from her home in Curlews Rocky’s Drift on June 15, 2016. She was reported missing to the police and investigations revealed that she was hijacked while leaving home for work.

Her missing saw hundreds of locals participating in a four-day search which led to the recovery of her car in Kabokweni. Her body was found in bushes next to Numbi road. Both accused were arrested on separate occasions after their fingerprints and cellphones signals were traced in the deceased’s vehicle and the scene of crime.
