MEC Shabalala warns communities on mob justice

Communities should work with government, including the police in order to eradicate crime

The MEC of Community Safety Security and Liaison Gabisile Shabalala has called on communities to work with government including police to eradicate crime.

“Crime affects all and sundry, the rich and poor the same. Victims and survivors are usually left reeling with trauma that takes a long time to heal. Therefore, communities should work with government, including the police in order to eradicate crime. This they can do by reporting crime when it happens.
Communities should also bring to the attention of the police any suspicious activities and people. Communities remain an integral part of government’s efforts to end criminality. However, acts of vigilantism represents lawlessness and such acts should be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said Shabalala.
